Daniel Shapiro is a lighting and furniture designer based in St. Louis, Missouri, working primarily with clay. His pieces bring a playful design sensibility rooted in his 20 years as a graphic designer, translating ideas from the screen into functional, sculptural forms.

Originally from a small town in Missouri, Daniel’s path has taken him through Miami, New York, and Los Angeles, each place shaping his creative approach and refining his design style. In 2017, while living in LA, Daniel took a ceramics class at a local pottery studio in Atwater. Two years later, he opened his own studio there.

In 2021, he moved back to Missouri to be closer to family and to grow his studio practice. That move became a turning point in his work.

In 2025, Daniel launched Winkle Ceramic Design, a production-focused brand built around the same mix of utility and imagination that defines his personal work.

His pieces have been recognized at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, where he received the Editors Award for Best Lighting in 2023 and Best Body of Work in 2025.
